Only One
I thought I could’ve been the one. The One, someone, anyone, it’s all the same. I just didn’t expect to be no one. Deep down, not even that deep, I really knew this would be the case. Me and my foolish hopes that only serve to help me sink lower. One of many. At the edge of something to say, a million words died a million silent deaths from between my lips. Is there no joke I could tell, nothing charming I could present myself as, that would have changed things? Even as you knew me, you couldn’t really see me there, could you? I’m just a wandering stranger in most peoples lives, just a shapeless mass of something you couldn’t really know.
